Ten members of the John Adams Orff Ensemble, along with Assistant Principal Paul George and Music Teacher Wes McCune, met with Vice President and Dr. Biden after they performed for one of their holiday parties in December 2011.

Directed by Mr. Wesley McCune
The John Adams Orff Ensemble is a group of 20 students who meet every day before school. The students play pitched and non-pitched percussion instruments, playing a variety of musical styles. The group performs frequently at school and in the community. Past performances have included retirement homes, civic organizations, telethons, school board functions, and programs for John Adams adopters. They have performed for, and received a citation from the Alexandria City Council; have performed for national and international conferences; and performed with the Billy Taylor Trio at the opening gala concert of the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage, receiving national press coverage, returning to perform for the 10th year anniversary of the Millennium Stage. They have also performed with the National Symphony Orchestra Brass Quintet and the National Symphony Orchestra principal harpist and principal 2nd violinist. The group was awarded a grant that established The Janice Baker Cook Fund for Music that underwrites the expenses for instruments and concerts.
