Our Principal - Seth Kennard
Mr. Seth Kennard came to Charles Barrett as principal in 2009. Prior to joining our school, Mr. Kennard served as the assistant principal at Alexandria's Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School. He also was an assistant principal and a fifth grade teacher in Stafford County, Virginia.
Mr. Kennard received his Master's of Education degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Virginia in 2004. He is originally from the Boston, Massachusetts area, and is now an Alexandria resident. Mr. Kennard lives with his wife, Kathleen, and their children, Jack and Ella.
He enjoys the close-knit community of Charles Barrett, and is passionate about providing each and every student with an education that is relevant, challenging and engaging. Mr. Kennard works closely with faculty to better serve all students, including those who receive special education and English Language Learner services. He is a proponent of inclusion and co-teaching to ensure that all learners receive instruction from highly qualified staff members.
Mr. Kennard has worked extensively to expand the school's tutoring program, including adding after-school homework clubs, Book Buddies, and doubling the school's community volunteer program. He believes that learning should be fun, and works closely with his staff team and PTA to provide Barrett students with exciting opportunities for hands-on learning throughout the school year.
Mr. Kennard welcomes school tours and parent visits—please call the school to make an appointment if you are considering joining our school community!
