Mimi Carter, District A, has called Alexandria home since 1981, when she moved here with her family. She now lives in Del Ray with her husband Joe LaMountain and her two girls, Mein and Phoebe, who attend Mount Vernon Community School. Ms. Carter holds a bachelor of arts in American Literature from George Washington University and a master's degree in Journalism and Public Policy from American University. She is the author of the book, The Insider's Guide to Quality Child Care in Greater Washington, published in 2000. From 1995 to 2004, she ran the early learning program Inner City-Inner Child, an outreach program for low-income children in Southeast and Northeast DC. In 2005, she joined the DC firm of Virilion, an interactive communications company, as their publicist. She has held several leadership positions within the Mount Vernon school community and was the 2008 Northern Virginia PTA Volunteer of the Year.
