Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP)
As outlined in the ACPS Strategic Plan and adopted by the School Board, ACPS' vision is to set the international standard for educational excellence, where all students achieve their potential and actively contribute to our local and global communities. To do so, ACPS believes in educational excellence; higher achievement for all; a culture of collaboration; continuous improvement and accountability; and environmental stewardship.
ACPS' belief in continuous improvement and accountability is further defined by the following principles:
- Educational program decisions are based on research-proven best practices.
- We encourage and nurture innovative educational and business methods.
- All decisions are transparent, fair, consistent, professional and evidence-based.
- We set clear, actionable goals and measure, publicize and take responsibility for our results.
- We are fiscally responsible and use resources efficiently and strategically.
In addition to the strategic plan, the adopted Division Education Plan requires ACPS to ensure that resources are aligned to support school and division-level education plans. These principles and division objectives serve as the basis from which ACPS staff worked diligently to explore and select a state-of-the-art, enterprise resource planning (ERP) solution.
In June 2011, Alexandria City Public Schools entered into a contract with Tyler Technologies to replace our aging and inefficient financial, payroll, time-management, and human resources systems with an integrated business solution that will help make ACPS one of the highest performing organizations.
The Tyler system is called Munis which is used by more than 1,400 public schools across the United States. Munis will be implemented over the next three (3) years (see timeline) and will drastically change how ACPS currently conducts business. For this reason, cross-functional participation from both schools and departments is vital to the success of this ERP implementation. This is a huge undertaking and we look forward to better serving our students, employees, and the citizens of Alexandria.
