Our managers and staff are committed to providing high quality, nutritious meals every single day. Managing school nutrition programs is a very complex career that requires current knowledge and expertise in a variety of disciplines. Managers are updated annually and continue to hone their skills and knowledge in areas such as nutrition, marketing, food safety and sanitation and financial management. Many of our managers are nationally certified through the School Nutrition Association. This is a voluntary program whereby, after initial certification, continuing education hours are required annually. Two ACPS "modified calendar" schools - Mount Vernon Community School and Samuel W. Tucker Elementary School - offer three intersessions throughout the school year, featuring a wide selection of both remedial and special-interest classes.
