All children should use the same route to and from school each day. Crossing guards are stationed at the corners of Reed Avenue and Commonwealth Avenue and at the intersection of West Glebe Road and Commonwealth Avenue.
Student safety patrols are also on duty to assist students traveling to school on foot or by bus. Ms. Haskins is Cora Kelly's patrol sponsor. Please contact her for more information about the safety patrols.
Parents who drop-off and pick-up their children by car should travel along Commonwealth Avenue, past the front of the school and turn left into the second parking lot to the drop-off/pick-up area. Cora Kelly staff members are on duty to meet and greet students and assist with loading and unloading. Please exit the parking lot and do not drive into the bus lanes located in front of the main doors.
There is no parking in the bus lanes during school hours and no parking is permitted along Commonwealth Avenue. Please park in the school parking lots located at the side of the school and across the street. Virginia State law requires that all vehicles come to a full stop when a school bus flashes its lights. This applies to traffic moving in both directions except when a median divider is present.
Children should use the same bus route and bus stop each day unless prior arrangements are made in writing by the parents/guardians. Route information is available on the ACPS Web site.
The Alexandria School Board policy on bus safety and behavior states that misbehavior or safety violations on any school bus will not be tolerated and consistent misbehavior could lead to a loss of bus-riding privileges. Students are expected to remain seated while the bus is moving and until they are dismissed, to talk quietly and to follow the directions given by the bus driver and safety patrols. For more information, please contact the Transportation Office at 703-461-4169.
