George Washington Chinese Language Students Visit Chinatown
George Washington Middle School Campus teacher Adele Hu last week took her sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade Chinese Language students to Washington's Chinatown for a fun, hands-on day of enrichment. The students impressed passersby with their recognition of Chinese characters on signs and buildings. Calligraphy lessons at the Chinatown Community Cultural Center challenged everyone: it turns out that making perfect brush strokes on rice paper is trickier than it looks!

Students capped off their trip with a delicious, authentic multi-course lunch at Tony Chen's. This chance to experience and celebrate Chinese culture dovetails beautifully with George Washington's integration of the International Baccalaureate (IB) program. IB aims "to develop young people who help to create a better and more peaceful world through intercultural understanding and respect."
Kudos to Ms. Hu for organizing a great field trip!
