Polk Kindergarten Classes Hold Annual Young Authors' Tea

Nineteen kindergarten students in Mrs. Cox's and Miss Brown's classes hosted "Soaring Readers and Flying Writers," a Young Authors' Tea Celebration on Thursday, May 10, at 12:30 p.m. at James K. Polk Elementary School, 5000 Polk Ave., Alexandria, in the multi-purpose room. Dressed in their fancy attire, each kindergartner read his or her own published book dedicated to his or her mom. Underneath an arch of balloons, the young authors were introduced, then read their books while seated in a special author's chair.

At the beginning of this special event, a slide show presentation featured each young author. Each commented about one thing he or she had read or written this year. The young authors recited poems to their moms, then presented them with teacups, each filled with goodies and a teabag.

The young authors enjoyed Peach Passion Herbal Tea, a fruit cup and muffins with their families after the guests had written special comments to the authors for their keepsake books. Each family left with an autograph book with the authors' signature in it, a framed portrait of the child and a "thank you" note card expressing gratitude for sharing the reading and writing experiences.
