George Washington Student to Receive Award from Alexandria Sportsman's Club
The Alexandria Sportsman's Club will present October's Alexandria Recreation Department Youth Player of the Month Award to Jaden Thrash, an 11-year-old sixth-grade honor roll student at the George Washington Middle School Campus. The award ceremony will take place during the club's Redskins Night on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6:30 p.m. at the Old Dominion Boat Club, 1 King St, Old Town Alexandria. Former Redskins Defensive End Dexter Manley, Redskins Historian and Author Mike Richman and some Hogettes will be special guests. The evening will wrap up with chili donated by Hard Times Café. The event is free and open to the public.
Jaden plays wide receiver on offense and cornerback on defense on the 85-pound American League Alexandria Titans Youth football team. The Titans are undefeated and tied for first place. Jaden was selected because his performance on the field was augmented by consistency in practice and in the classroom. Coach Mic Wilhoit has described Jaden as "one of the most coachable kids I know." He can be counted on to cover his assignment and help his teammates whenever possible. His most noteworthy talent, however, is superior downfield blocking that results in big plays. Jaden has played Titan football for 4 years and also competes in the youth basketball league. He attends Third Baptist Church in Alexandria.
