The Alexandria Education Partnership has announced that Secretary of Education Thomas R. Morris will be the keynote speaker at its annual Excellence in Education awards dinner on Tuesday, June 6. Dr. Belle Wheelan was originally scheduled to speak but had a last-minute commitment. AEP feels extremely fortunate that Dr. Morris is available.
Dr. Thomas R. Morris began serving as Secretary of Education for the Commonwealth of Virginia in the Administration of Timothy M. Kaine on Jan. 15. Prior to his appointment within the Governor's Cabinet, Secretary Morris served as president of Emory & Henry College.
The AEP Excellence in Education awards dinner will honor eight outstanding Alexandria City Public Schools teachers and two private school teachers. The recognition event on June 6 at the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center, 5000 Seminary Road, Alexandria, features a mixer at 5 p.m., with a performance by the T.C. Williams High School Jazz Ensemble, followed by dinner at 6 p.m. For more information about the event or sponsorship opportunities, contact AEP Executive Director Kerri Rogers at krogers@alexandriaedpartnership.org or 703-606-1193.
