The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) awarded the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Budget Office the GFOA Distinguished Budget Presentation Award for the ACPS budget.
The award represents a significant achievement by ACPS and reflects the commitment of the governing body and staff to meeting the highest principles of governmental budgeting. In order to receive the budget award, ACPS had to satisfy nationally recognized guidelines for effective budget presentation. These guidelines are designed to assess how well an entity's budget serves as a policy document, a financial plan, an operations guide and a communications device. To receive the award, a budget document must be rated "proficient" in all four categories and in the 14 mandatory criteria within those categories. Award recipients have pioneered efforts to improve the quality of budgeting and provide excellent examples for other governments throughout North America.
GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving more than 17,600 government finance professionals throughout North America. Its awards program is the only national awards program in governmental budgeting.
Early childhood education students intern with the Alexandria Head Start program and provide assistance at the Tiny Titan Daycare Center housed in T.C. Williams High School.
