Dear ACPS Families and Colleagues,
The City of Alexandria remains under a State of Emergency. City employees are working around the clock to clear roads, sidewalks, and parking lots. The level of activity to assure the safety of our community and the soundness of public buildings is impressive.
Alexandria City Public Schools has three snow make-up days built into our calendar. As of today, we have missed six instructional days due to inclement weather and forecasts show we are likely to miss even more this winter. As a result, we know that many parents, students and employees are concerned about how we will make up those days.
We are currently looking at options which provide maximum instructional opportunity for our students. Once we have a better idea of how snow removal efforts continue this week and how the storm tonight will impact us, we will formulate a proposal for the School Board's consideration for making up the instructional days we have lost. As soon as a decision is made, we will let you know.
In the meantime, I hope you all stay safe and warm, and we look forward to welcoming students back to school soon.
Sincerely,
Morton Sherman
Superintendent
