ACPS Kindergarten Registration Begins on April 12

Will your child be five by Sept. 30, 2010? Register your child for kindergarten at your home school, starting April 12. If you are not sure which school your child will attend, use our online attendance zone locator to determine your neighborhood school based on your home address: www.acps.k12.va.us/enroll/zonelocator.php.

Was your child born outside of the United States and is a language other than English spoken in the home? Then register at the ELL (English Language Learning) Center at 4701 Seminary Road in the Ellen Coolidge Burke Branch Library building (on the ground level). Modified hours from April 12 through 23 include office hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., registration hours of 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. and extended kindergarten registration hours of 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on April 12, 15, 19 and 22. The office closes from 12:30 to 1 p.m. and 5 to 5:30 p.m. Please call 703-461-6550 for more information.

The following documents are required for registration:

  1. Child's original birth certificate (a copy will be made in the school office).
  2. Proof that the adult registering the child is the parent or legal guardian (name on birth certificate matches the parent's picture ID or court documents of legal custody).
  3. Two different documents each proving Alexandria City residency (such as a rent receipt, lease agreement, current* utility or land line phone bill, or personal property tax receipt).
  4. Child's social security number.
  5. Official school records from another school system or country, if applicable and available.
  6. Medical information that includes immunization records as well as a physical examination and a tuberculosis screening done within the 12 months prior to starting school.

* Current refers to documents no more than two months old.
