Executive Associate Principals Named for T.C. Williams

A significant change included in proposals for the T.C. Williams High School Transformation Plan involves restructuring the administration to focus on curriculum and instruction and on athletics and student services. Alexandria City Public Schools Superintendent Morton Sherman announced the appointment of Peter Balas as Executive Associate Principal of Curriculum and Instruction, and Steven Colantuoni as Executive Associate Principal of Athletics and Student Activities, effective July 1.

"These two administrators have shown strong leadership, expertise and a devoted connection to T.C. over many years," said Dr. Sherman. "There has never been a moment when the needs of our students were not at the core of their decision making."

Steve Colantuoni will assume the responsibilities of the Athletic Director as well as those of overseeing student activities. Mr. Colantuoni, a T.C. Williams graduate, has been a very successful teacher, coach and administrator in our school division, serving most recently as the Executive Associate Principal at T.C. Williams, King Street Campus.

Peter Balas will be the first full-time T.C. Williams administrator focused directly on curriculum and instruction. Mr. Balas currently serves as an Academy Principal and chairs the T.C. Vision and Action Committee.

The T.C. restructuring also includes replacing academy principals with content area principals (academic principals), creating deans for each grade level who will advance with the students, an assistant director of counseling and more. The detailed plan is available online.
