Representatives of Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), HITT Contracting and O'Brien & Keane on July 7 visited the NRB plant in Ephrata, Pa., where the modular classroom construction for the expansion of John Adams Elementary School is nearly complete.

The classrooms, which are constructed to meet the rigorous ACPS standards for durability, functionality and safety, are also part of the ACPS initiative to achieve a LEED Silver rating as established by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for the overall school modernization program. The modular classrooms have been constructed nearly entirely off-site at the NRB facility under tight quality-control conditions, and will be shipped to the school for installation over the course of one week later this month.
ACPS anticipates that this methodology will set a trend for projects going forward, due to the speed, enhanced quality and decreased cost of the construction.
