Applications are due on Friday, July 23, for the first annual Alexandria Youth Arts Festival. Discover the arts, launch your creative side, and enjoy live performances at the event, to be held on Saturday, Aug. 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Jefferson-Houston School, 1501 Cameron St.
This inaugural event - sponsored by the Alexandria Redevelopment and Housing Authority (ARHA), Northern Virginia Urban League and Recreation, Parks and Cultural Activities Department - will feature children's activities, crafts, exhibits, music and spoken word. Admission is free.

In the new T.C. Williams High School building, a 450,000 gallon underground cistern collects rainwater from the building's roof and stores it for use in toilet flushing, air-conditioning operations and irrigation. Learn more »
