Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) is planning additions and minor alterations to Charles Barrett Elementary School to meet the system-wide need for additional instructional space. The project will be presented to the public at meeting scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 15, at 7 p.m. in the school's auditorium, 1115 Martha Custis Dr.
When completed in August of 2011, the school will have a new pre-kindergarten classroom, four primary classrooms and an expanded cafeteria. Green building strategies such as day lighting, high-efficiency HVAC systems, flow-through planter boxes, vegetated roofs and the use of recycled material will be implemented as part of the ACPS "Greenovation" initiative.

In the new T.C. Williams High School building, a 450,000 gallon underground cistern collects rainwater from the building's roof and stores it for use in toilet flushing, air-conditioning operations and irrigation. Learn more »
