Superintendent Announces Administrative Staff Changes

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Superintendent Morton Sherman today extended congratulations to Stephen M. Wilkins on his selection as the new Chief Operating Officer for DeKalb County Schools in Georgia. Mr. Wilkins will depart ACPS early in February. Currently, he serves in several key roles for ACPS: Chief Executive Officer for Jefferson-Houston School, Transformation Officer for T.C. Williams High School and Project Director for the Total Compensation Review.

"Steve has made tremendous contributions to ACPS and this community since arriving in Alexandria in 2009," Dr. Sherman said. "His tireless efforts have led to significant improvement in our human resources practices, the transformation efforts and successes at T.C. Williams and the new direction for Jefferson-Houston School. Steve's connections to this community, our students, our parents and our partners speak volumes to his commitment to excellence in education for children, and we will miss him greatly," Dr. Sherman said.

Additionally, staff changes will occur in ACPS Financial Services. Jean Sina will depart the position of Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to pursue a new professional opportunity. Stacey B. Johnson will assume the role of Interim CFO effective immediately. The Interim CFO and the Financial Services Department will report directly to the Superintendent. Ms. Johnson previously served as Budget Director for the school division and currently serves as the Project Manager for Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), a comprehensive, integrated financial services and human resources system. The Alexandria City School Board approved the procurement and implementation of ERP in June 2011.

"I am excited to have Stacey take on this new role," Dr. Sherman said. "She has vast knowledge and skills in budget, financial services, and systems integration that will help ensure a smooth transition as Interim CFO during this important budget cycle."
