T.C. Williams Crew Enjoys Strong Showing at Weekend Regattas
This past weekend's events saw the T.C. Williams High School Boys' and Girls' Crew teams journey to courses in two different states to take on fast competition.
The T.C. Williams boys stayed in the Commonwealth, traveling to the Occoquan Reservoir for the Darrell Winslow Regatta. Conditions were optimal for racing, with sunny skies, temperatures in the high 70s and a light to moderate headwind. The T.C. Williams Boys' Freshman Eight advanced from heats and into their final and captured a first-place win with a time of 5:13.4 topping crews from Bethesda Chevy-Chase, Lake Braddock, McLean, Madison and Great Bridge.
The T.C. Williams Boys' Lightweight Eight finished second with a time of 4:54.4 behind rival W.T. Woodson. The defending state champion T.C. Williams Boys' First Four finished second with a time of 5:25.4 behind Mathews High School. The T.C. Williams Boys' Junior Four finished third with a time of 5:24.7 to South County and W.T. Woodson, and the T.C. Williams Boys' Novice Eight posted an impressive third-place finish with a time of 5:15.3 to Gloucester and Thomas Jefferson.
The T.C. Williams Girls' Team traveled to Delaware to the Saint Andrews School for a fast race on Noxontown Pond. Warm weather with a quartering tailwind all day made for fast conditions and great racing. The T.C. Williams Girls' Freshman Eight posted an impressive second-place finish with a time of 5:33.2 to Merion Mercy Academy. The T.C. Williams Girls' Third Eight also posted a second-place finish, with a time of 6:17.8 to Saint Andrews School.
