Introduction

William Ramsay Elementary School was built in 1957, with additions in 1963, 1977, 1990 and 2001. In addition to grades PreK-5, this facility also serves the community with a newly built modern community recreation center. William Ramsay takes great pride in the dedication and commitment of its staff, the diversity of its student population, the assistance provided by our business partners and the support of parents and other members of our community.

Technology

All classrooms have access to class sets of net book computer mobile carts in addition to 2-3 stationary desktop computers. The majority of classrooms have document cameras, LCD projectors, and Smart Boards for use in instruction. Students also have online access to the Accelerated Reader, First In Math, Everyday Mathematics Online, Study Island, Kid Biz, SOL Pass, and Brain Pop Web-based programs. Students have access to word processing software, PowerPoint, Digital Storytelling software, movie making software, Excel, HyperStudio, Timeliner, and many other software tools to increase their technological skills and enhance instruction. Through our school-wide LAN, staff members can share resources, communicate via e-mail and access the library's catalog system. Meal Program

William Ramsay Elementary School will be continuing to have the Universal Breakfast Program at our school in the 2011-2012 school year. We are excited because studies show only 47 of every 100 eligible children eat federally-funded free or reduced price school breakfasts, and studies further show that Universal School Breakfast Programs dramatically increase student participation in school breakfast. Also, regardless of income, we know families today live busy lives, with long commutes and long and nontraditional work hours that often make it difficult to sit down long enough in the morning to eat a nutritious breakfast. Breakfast is served to all children at no cost each day in the classroom. Please note that if a student transfers out of William Ramsay Elementary, that benefit will not extend to other schools if the child's family does not qualify for free/reduced meals. Also, lunch is not part of the Universal Breakfast Program and is only free to those who qualify for free and reduced benefits. For more information on our meal programs, visit the School Nutrition Services section of our website.
