High school summer school program in the Alexandria City Public Schools offers multiple learning opportunities for students to remediate their deficiencies and improve and expand their academic skills. Instruction in all program components at each grade and subject level reflects the related curriculum of the Alexandria City Public Schools and the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs).

This program has three options. Breakfast and lunch are served for all students.

  • Credit Recovery:
  • ELL Program: For ELL students who need to obtain additional credits for on-time graduation.
  • Original Credit Courses: For students wanting to take Physical Education or Economics and Personal Finance. Open to any student for a fee. There is a reduced rate for Free/Reduced Lunch students.

HIGH SCHOOL ONLINE

Date: These classes begin in June and are completed by students at their own pace. Course must be completed by August 18, 2015.
Location: Online
Who may attend: Rising 10th, 11th and 12th graders

Each 1-credit course is $400. Each 0.5-credit course is $220. Economics and Personal Finance is $60 for Free/Reduced Lunch students.

Orientation session on-site weekly from June 4 through June 20. Weekly support sessions will be held.

The Young Scholars model is a strategy which addresses disproportionality within gifted programming by providing enrichment and nurturing for students who demonstrate potential early in their schooling. Students from targeted schools participate in a three week summer experience and then continue throughout the school year in specialized enrichment projects extending from the summer program.

SUMMER LANGUAGE ACADEMY

Dates: July 6-24, 2015

Who may attend: Rising kindergarten through fifth-grade students in the Dual Language programs at Mount Vernon Community School and John Adams Elementary School.

The ACPS Summer Enrichment Program is a free, exclusive experience that helps students in grades three through eight enhance their skills in reading, writing and mathematics. Students will engage in a range of hands-on learning experiences, including projects and visits to Alexandria and Washington, D.C. landmarks.

MUSIC CAMP

Dates: July 20-24, 2015
Times: 9 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Location: Francis C. Hammond Middle School
Who may attend: Rising fifth- through ninth-grade band and orchestra students
Registration: Register by completing and submitting the application form by June 22.

ACPS Summer Camp is a program for selected rising fifth- through ninth-grade students who currently play an instrument or want to learn to play an instrument. Students are taught level-appropriate skills to improve their playing — note reading and technique — in a fun-filled, relaxed environment. Participants must be students in ACPS schools.

Instruments will be provided for the students. Performances by area professionals will be provided for the students. Transportation to and from school is available. Breakfast and lunch is provided.
