PTSA College and Career Center Volunteer Program

The T.C. Williams Parent-Teacher-Student Association (PTSA) has begun a volunteer effort to assist staff in the College and Career Center. Our job is to assist T.C. students in navigating the college search and application process, under the supervision of Patricia Braun, College and Career Specialist. The center is located on the first floor of T.C. Williams, just down the hall from the main office. The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, but the busiest hours are 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. during the four lunch periods, and from 3 to 4 p.m. right after school is out.

If you are interested, we hope that you will be able to volunteer at least one day a week for at least 2-3 hours. You are welcome to work any hours that fit your schedule, but if your hours can overlap with at least part of the busy lunch time or end of school time, that would be great. There are other tasks you can do in off hours, if you are unable to come during busy times. If you wish to have a permanent assignment, you can be scheduled for a particular time slot. If you would rather sign up for a particular shift each month that fits your changing schedule, that is fine too. Our goal is to have three or four people each day cover the busy lunch time slot, and call for even more volunteers during those times when deadlines are near, such as right before SAT or ACT registration deadlines, or right before college application deadlines.

Also, if you have friends or neighbors who would like to volunteer at the center, please recruit them. They do not need to have children in the school system to volunteer. We are hoping to get at least 40 volunteers for this school year, and we are halfway there already, thanks to your generosity!

Thanks again for your interest in this important opportunity to insure that every T.C. Williams students gets help with the college and career process.
