Sports Participation Requirements


In order to compete in sports at T.C. Williams High School, a student athlete and team member* must:

  • Complete an Emergency Care Form **
  • Complete a VHSL Athletic Participation/Parental Consent/Physical Examination Form
  • dated May 1 or later and bring it to the T.C. Williams Athletic Department
  • Review and sign the back page of the Team Rules and Expectations **
  • Be a regular bona fide student in good standing at T.C. Williams High School
  • Be enrolled in the last four years of high school (grades 9-12)
  • Be enrolled not later than the fifteenth day of the current semester
  • Be enrolled in 5 or more credit subjects
  • Have not reached the age of 19 on or before August 1 of the current school year
  • Have a 2.0 or better GPA for the previous quarter
  • Not have been enrolled in high school for more than 8 semesters since entering the 9th grade (8th graders can participate on Freshman and JV teams)

* Managers and statisticians need to meet all requirements and return all forms except the physical examination.

** Need to be given to the head coach of the team by NLT the first day of practice/tryouts.

Each student athlete (n/a for managers) is required by the Virginia High School League (VHSL) to have a physical exam in order to compete in athletics. The physical is good for all three sports seasons in one school year. Each new school year student athletes must complete a few form. Physical forms need to be dated May 1 or later and need to be on file in the Athletic Department prior to the student athletes practicing or trying out for a team. Commonwealth of Virginia, camp physicals, doctor office physicals, etc. cannot be used. VHSL athletic physical forms can be downloaded from this site (PDF).
