Two High Schools Model
If we build a second high school it would have it’s own name, identity, own sports teams, arts programs and culture. The second high school would need to be large enough to educate at least 1600 students. This means, at a bare minimum, looking for space in the city to build a 312,000 square foot structure. Parking, athletic fields, auditoriums and other specialized programs create the need for additional space choices.
Both high schools would provide the core courses required by state law to graduate with a standard or advanced diploma. Both schools would also offer some electives, Advanced Placement, World Languages and some Career and Technical Education courses. But, it is likely that fewer course options will be available at both schools due to dividing student enrollment and staffing needs. The Education Design Team’s work is focused on this.
