Ada Alvarado

 

Ada Alvarado has been teaching First Grade since 2015 at John Adams Elementary.  She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Elementary Education from Interamerican University in Ponce, PR.  Mrs. Alvarado loves to travel and to spend time with her family. Her goal is to make her students feel valued, safe and that they can reach all their goals in life.

Alexandra Bender

 

Alexandra Bender has been a teacher at John Adams Elementary since January 2013 when she began her time as a teacher in ACPS.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education from Indiana State University, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction from George Mason University.

Ms. Bender is passionate about providing students with a classroom that is differentiated and inclusive for all students. She believes that building relationships is key.

Originally from Illinois, she enjoys reading, traveling, and eating Ramen.

Jessica Goldkind

 

Jessica Goldkind received a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics from Washington University in St. Louis and a Masters in Teaching from Stanford University. She taught English in preschool and Kindergarten in Santiago de Chile for two years, first grade in a 90-10 dual immersion program in Sunnyvale, CA for 4 years, and first grade Spanish immersion in DCPS before joining John Adams in 2021.

Ms. Goldkind is passionate about helping every student be inspired by the world and excited to learn, think critically, develop social-emotional skills, learn Spanish, and reach their full academic potential. Her hobbies include traveling, being active outdoors, latin dance, vegetarian cooking, and spending time with friends and family.

Jessica Goldkind estudió Lingüística en la universidad de Washington en San Luis, Missouri y una maestría en educación en la universidad de Stanford. Enseñó inglés en kinder y prekinder en Santiago de Chile por dos años, luego enseñó primer grado en un programa bilingüe en Sunnyvale, California por 4 años y en otro programa bilingüe en Washington, DC por 2 años.

Ms. Goldkind se integró a la escuela John Adams en 2021. Ella desea ayudar a cada uno de sus alumnos a inspirarse por el mundo, entusiasmarse con el aprendizaje, aprender el pensamiento crítico, el idioma español y destrezas sociales y emocionales, y realizar su potencial académico.

Shannon McGovern

 

Shannon McGovern is excited to start her first year teaching at John Adams!

Originally from Huntington, New York she recently moved to Arlington, Virginia.

Ms. McGovern earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood and Childhood Education from the State University of New York at Oneonta. Currently she is pursuing a Master’s Degree in Literacy Education from the State University of New York at Oneonta.

During the 2020-2021 school year, Ms. McGovern worked as a second and fourth grade leave replacement teacher in New York. Her experience helped her to grow as an educator.

Shannon McGovern's goal is to create a positive learning environment for her students in which they feel safe, respected, and heard.

Celeste Parker

 

This is Celeste Parker’s second year teaching at ACPS and her fifth year teaching first grade.  She previously taught in Glen Burnie, Maryland. Mrs. Parker has a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from University of Maryland and is currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Reading Instruction from Goucher College.

Mrs. Parker is passionate about helping students grow as learners in a safe and engaging learning environment, where they are encouraged to explore and share their ideas. She strives to incorporate culturally responsive teaching practices to create an inclusive and differentiated classroom environment for all of her students.

Originally from Annapolis, Maryland, Mrs. Parker enjoys traveling, hiking, and reading.
