Allison Crabb

 

Allison Crabb has been at John Adams Elementary for 9 years, serving as a 3rd grade Dual Language teacher and currently as an English Learner Teacher.  Before that, she was a 3rd grade teacher at Colegio Los Nogales in Bogota, Colombia for five years.  She has a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with a certification in Teaching ELs from Boston College and a Reading Specialist Certificate from the University of Virginia.

Ms. Crabb is bilingual in English and Spanish and passionate about the promise of dual language education.  She enjoys reading, going to the movies, and travelling.

Nicole Demski

 

Nicole Demski has been a teacher at John Adams' since 2010.  Prior to teaching in Alexandria, she taught third grade in Florida for three years and for two years in Michigan.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education, a Master's Degree in Educational Technology, and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction:Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners. In 2016, Mrs. Demski was a Teacher of the Year Award Nominee for ACPS.

Lemore Fritz

 

Lemore Fritz has been a teacher at John Adams since 2002.  She has taught first and third grade and currently serves in a dual role as an English Language teacher and Changing Education Through the Arts (CETA) school coordinator.  She holds a Bachelor's Degree in History, a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction, and a Master's Degree in Teaching Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Learners.

Fritz was the 2016 recipient of the Anne Lipnick Award for Outstanding Achievement in the practice of inclusion.

Mrs. Fritz is a huge Washington Capitals fan and enjoys going to games with her family.  She also loves chocolate!

Greisy Garriga

 

Greisy Garriga has been at John Adams Elementary for 13 years, serving as a 2nd and 4th grade Dual Language teacher and currently as an English Learner Teacher. She has a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education with a certification in Bilingual Education and a Master's Degree in Curriculum and Instruction.

Jeanette Haghayeghi

 

Jeanette Haghayeghi has a Master’s Degree in Education from the University of Southern California.  She has taught Preschool through 8th grade for 17 years.  She began working at John Adams in 2014 as a dual language second grade teacher and is currently an EL teacher.  Mrs. Haghayeghi has a passion for language and culture and a love for teaching. 

She strives to create a caring, yet stimulating classroom environment and a positive school experience for all students. 

Mrs. Haghayeghi was born and raised in California.  She is married and enjoys visiting her daughter in California and her son in Alaska.  She enjoys raising puppies, reading, swimming, and traveling.

Juliet Harris

 

Juliet M. Harris joined the John Adams family in 2012 as an English Language (EL) teacher.  She grew up in Arizona but lived all over the world as an Air Force dependent.  She knew since she was 9 years old that she wanted to be a teacher, and attended Northern Arizona University where she obtained her Masters in Bilingual and Multicultural Education. Throughout her educational career, she has had the privilege of teaching all ages of learners from 6 years old to adulthood—both nationally and abroad in Germany, Dubai, India, and China.

Ms. Harris strives to bridge across languages to build understanding and awareness, while empowering learners to transfer and apply what they know. Her focus is to deliver highly collaborative lessons in diverse educational settings by applying Guided Language Acquisition Design (GLAD), as well as arts and technology integration.

Jessica Shirley

 

Jessica Shirley joined John Adams in 2012.  She grew up in Arizona and attended The University of Arizona (Bear Down!), where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education.  She began her teaching career in a Bilingual Education school near the Arizona-Mexico border, teaching grades 4-5, and realizing the high need to advocate for bilingual education, she pursued her Master’s in Bilingual and Multicultural Education at The University of Arizona.  She returned to this same border town elementary school, where she taught grades 2-3.

Being a military spouse brought Mrs. Shirley to North Carolina, where she taught 5th  grade for two years, and has currently been working with various grade levels at John Adams Elementary.  She also received a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction from George Mason University, with a focus on English Language Learners.  Mrs. Shirley is a passionate educator who believes that as educators, we undoubtedly hold the power to make school less isolating for our students who represent various cultures and languages.

Mrs. Shirley enjoys traveling back home to Arizona, exploring the outdoors, and traveling to new places.

Brenda Tarquinio

 

Brenda Tarquinio came to John Adams as a 5th grade Language Arts teacher in 2017 and returns this year as an English Learner teacher.  Over her 28 years of teaching, she has taught 4th, 5th and 6th grade including eleven years as an elementary physical education teacher.  She began her career in Florida and taught in Maryland for 13 years before relocating to the Alexandria area.  She has achieved two National Board certifications in her career, one in Elementary Education and the other in Physical Education. She believes in integrating movement with learning as children need healthy bodies and minds.  She is on the advisory board for Running Brooke of Alexandria that supports teacher's in grants to incorporate movement into the classroom.

Mrs. Tarquinio attended Florida Atlantic University for her Bachelor's degree and obtained her master's in Educational Leadership from Nova Southeastern University.

She currently resides in Alexandria with her husband and two rescue kitties.  She enjoys reading, photography, exercise and has a passion for environmental issues and can be found cleaning beaches at sunrise in Florida every chance she gets to return home to her family.

Ann Tejeda

 

Ann Tejeda has been an EL teacher at John Adams for 14 years.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in English K-12, an endorsement in ENL (English as a New Language), a Master's Degree in Curriculum & Instruction and is currently working towards a Master’s Degree in Reading Instruction. Mrs. Tejeda is proficient in Spanish and works with several third grade classes.

She has been passionate about teaching English since she was a little girl.  She grew up in Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Malaysia starting at the age of 5 and returned to attend college.  Tejeda spent her afternoons in Vietnam teaching English to university students at a local school, igniting her passion for teaching English. When she returned to the United States to attend classes at Goshen College, she immersed herself in Spanish and rapidly acquired the language.

Tejeda loves to spend time outdoors with her family and is always embarking on a new adventure!

Jeretha Thomas

 

Jeretha Thomas has been a part of the 4th grade Dual Language team since August 2017.  This will be her fourth year at John Adams, but her 16th year of teaching. She began her teaching career in Georgia.  Mrs. Thomas has taught grades 1-5 and also served as a literacy coach for seven years. She received a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master of Science in Reading, endorsed in English as a Second Language (ESOL), and she is currently working on Talented and Gifted Endorsement.

However, before teaching Mrs. Thomas served in the United States Army for seven years where she also met her husband, Antoine.  She has been married for 22 years, has one son, and recently added a granddaughter to their family.  Although her family lives in her home state of Georgia, it does not stop her from being an active participant in their lives.

Jeretha is a highly motivated, educated, and multi-talented teacher that loves teaching children and working with adults.  Her inner qualities have helped her to be successful in the goals that she has set for herself.  She’s flexible and dedicated to her passion of teaching and learning. Finally, Jeretha is ecstatic about the adventures that will take place this year at John Adams!

Nanette Trujillo

 

Nanette Trujillo-Rivera has been an English Learners teacher at John Adams Elementary School since 2015.  Prior to relocating to Alexandria, VA, Ms. Trujillo-Rivera taught in Puerto Rico for 7 years.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Puerto Rico and a Master’s Degree from Interamerican University of Puerto Rico. During her teaching years in Puerto Rico she mostly worked with Middle School and High School students.  She had the opportunity of working with Special Education students and Adult Education while she was teaching in Puerto Rico.  Trujillo-Rivera has dedicated her teaching career to English Learners.

She was born and raised in Puerto Rico.  Ms. Trujillo enjoys traveling every summer to a new destination and to Puerto Rico to visit her family and friends.
