Flavia Lopes

Flavia Lopes has been a part of the John Adams' 4th Grade and Specialized Instruction team since August 2017.  She has a Bachelor's Degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Spanish and a Master's Degree in Special Education from James Madison University.

Lopes is a dedicated educator who strives to create a community of learners in a positive, fun environment and making a difference in your child’s life.  She values the importance of a growth mindset, building positive relationships, and working as a team to ensure student growth in all areas of their development.

Originally from Portugal and having then moved to New Jersey, Lopes has a love for dogs, traveling, and hanging out with family and friends.

Ventura Loving

Ventura Loving is a native of DC born and raised.  She graduated from Bowie State University earning her Bachelor’s degree in History.

Ms. Loving began working at John Adams in 2011 as an instructional assistant in the citywide program. She worked as an Instructional Assistant for four years before leaving to attend graduate school at Liberty University, where she earned her Master’s degree in Special Education. Ms. Loving went on to teach in DC as an early childhood teacher for three years. Her love for working with students with special needs and wanting to be a special education teacher, Ms. Loving made the decision to return to John Adams as a teacher in the citywide program in 2019. 

During her free time, Ms. Loving enjoys reading, spending time with her family and watching wrestling.

Elyssa Miller

Elyssa Miller grew up in New York, moved to Connecticut to teach, then moved to New Jersey where she taught for most of her career. 

Ms. Miller has a degree in Elementary Education from SUNY Cortland and a Master's Degree in Special Education from St. Thomas Aquinas College.  Elyssa Miller have been a Special Education teacher for almost eight years.

She loves helping students reach their full potential and overcoming some of the challenges they face in school.

Outside of school she enjoys reading and spending time with her family and friends.

Amanda Roberson

Amanda Roberson is starting her first year teaching at John Adams Elementary School in the Citywide Program but has taught for 17 years in the private school sector.

She is a North Carolinian ("Go Tarheels") but has lived in Northern Virginia for many years.

Ms. Roberson holds a B.A. degree in Sociology Social Work and a M.Ed. in Special Education Cross-Categorical.

During Ms. Roberson's free time, she enjoys reading, traveling, watching movies from the “50s” and “60s” and spending time with her family and friends.

Jennifer Smith

Jennifer Smith holds a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and Japanese Studies from Gettysburg College and a Master's Degree in Speech-Language Pathology from Loyola University Maryland.  She is licensed in Virginia and holds a Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language Hearing Association.

She began working in the field of speech-language pathology in 2011 and joined the ACPS team in 2018.

Originally from Pennsylvania, Ms. Smith enjoys reading, drawing, and spending time outdoors.

Erin Turner

Erin Turner is beginning her seventh year teaching and her fourth year at John Adams. She works in our City Wide program with students with Autism. She received her Bachelor’s Degree from Slippery Rock University of Pennsylvania in Elementary and Special Education.

Turner is passionate about using and training staff on Applied Behavior Analysis teaching strategies. She is an advocate for students with disabilities and their families.  She has attended training in PECS to better support her students with communication needs.

Originally from Pittsburgh, she enjoys watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, hiking and spending time with family and friends.

Abigail Weber

Abigail Weber began her teaching career at John Adams in the Fall of 2016 as a part of the Specialized Instruction Team.  She received her Bachelor’s degree in Elementary and Special Education from Grove City College and recently earned her Master’s degree in Special Education with a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis from George Mason University.

Weber is a student-centered teacher who is passionate about providing all students with a fun, safe, and encouraging learning environment.  She is dedicated to providing all of the necessary tools, accommodations, and learning interventions to promote success in her students as members of our school as well as members of our community.

In her free time, Weber enjoys reading, being outdoors, traveling, and spending time with her cat, Oliver
