Gwendolyn Bridges

Gwendolyn Bridges is a Professional School Counselor with 28 years of experience in education.  She began her career in the classroom as an Elementary School Teacher, and continued her education to pursue her interest in school counseling.  Mrs. Bridges continues to hold her license to teach, in addition to her Postgraduate Professional License to serve as a counselor for students in elementary, middle and high school.

Mrs. Bridges truly enjoys working to help support students.  She is the Talented and Gifted (TAG) Designee, mentors and collaborates with peers and serves on several committees to help increase student success.   She starts her day greeting students as they arrive to school, and shares positive messages to encourage them to have a good day. Her schedule includes teaching class lessons that focus on character education, drug/bully prevention, online/offline safety and career education.  In addition, Mrs. Bridges facilitates individual and group counseling sessions and reviews academic/behavioral data to support student needs.

After her workday, she and her husband stay busy with two teenage kids.

Stephanie Cruz

Stephanie Cruz is the newest member of our SST.  She joined our team during the 2018-2019 school year.  She has a Dual Bachelor's Degree in Human Development and Africana Studies and a Masters Degree in Social Work. She initially began her work with ACPS in 2015 as a Social Work Intern with the Lead Social Worker, Arnecia Moody.  After obtaining her masters she worked as a Family Support Specialist with the City of Alexandria. 

Ms.Cruz is passionate about helping students and families.  She believes that home, school and community collaboration are essential to ensuring our students are successful.  She spends her time connecting families with resources in the community, working as a part of the special education referral and reevaluation process and monitoring attendance at John Adams.  She also provides supportive counseling and skill building to individual students, groups of students, and parents, to promote optimal learning and student success.

Ms. Cruz enjoys spending her free time outdoors with her husband and puppy.

Michael Frazier

Edward “Mike” Frazier is a Professional School Counselor who has 29 years of experience in education, with 18 years of employment in ACPS.  Mr. Frazier earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Administration of Justice and a Master’s Degree in School Counseling/Counseling Psychology.  He has a Pupil Personnel License and is certified to assist students in Kindergarten through twelfth grade.

Mr. Frazier was literally the only counselor some students had as he accepted different opportunities to support ACPS students and families. Since coming to ACPS and before joining the John Adams Staff, Mr. Frazier worked at Jefferson-Houston, Francis C. Hammond, Minnie Howard, and T.C. Williams.

He enjoys encouraging and counseling students, while reminding them to make wise choices.  He provides social skills lessons, individual/group counseling and he is the 504 Chairperson.

When he is not at John Adams, Mr. Frazier enjoys exercising, watching sports and spending time with his wife and their three teenagers.

Althea Huggins

Althea Huggins started her school nurse career in ACPS by serving as a substitute nurse, working in schools throughout the division, and has been the full time John Adams school nurse for the past 11 years.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, and Master’s Degree in Education with School Nurse Emphasis, and is a Nationally Board Certified School Nurse. She is a  Johnson & Johnson School Health Leadership Fellow, Class of 2014, a recipient of the Flora Krause Casey Public Health Award, and published in the July 2019 NASN (National Association of School Nurses) School Nurse Journal.

Mrs. Huggins works for all students to have access to health care.  She wants them to be as physically and mentally healthy as possible, and to learn self care and resilience so they can attend school, be prepared to achieve in the classroom, and learn and live to the best of their ability. She understands the importance of collaboration in order for this to happen.

Sheila Wasilewski

Sheila Wasilewski is a Nationally Certified School Psychologist.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Clinical and Social Psychology, a Master’s Degree in School Psychology and an Advanced Graduate Certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis.  She started working at John Adams Elementary School in 2002 and followed our students to F.C. Hammond Middle School from 2009-2013.  Sheila was excited to return to John Adams in 2013 as she loves the JA students, teachers and community.

Ms. Wasilewski spends a lot of her time conducting psycho educational evaluations as part of the special education referral and reevaluation process and consulting with teachers in order to support student success in the classroom.  She is also passionate about providing a safe environment within the school where children can express themselves openly, build friendships and learn strategies for solving problems. It is important to Ms. Wasilewski that every student feels included at school and has at least one adult that they trust within the building.

Ms. Wasilewski spends her free time with her husband and three young children.
