Congratulations to the Class of 2020!

EIP Class of 2020
  • This year's GMU Early Identification Program cohort Class of 2020 has truly shined!  Collectively, they have done amazing things and produced amazing options for them and their families as it pertains to post-secondary planning.  Career pathways include the study of biology with hopes to become a doctor and nurse,  computer sience, applied food science and communications.  These students have make their mark as EIP students, Titan graduates and collectively as a highly successful cohort and the largest in ACPS history.  Their accomplishments include the following:

    • Combined average GPA of 3.5
    • Enrollment in more than thirty-five (35) courses of rigor to include Advanced Placement and NOVA dual enrollment
    • Completion and submission of more than sixty-five (65) applications
    • Applied to more than twenty (20) different colleges and universities
    • Attained 100% college acceptance to a two or four year college or university
    • Collected various scholarships including seven (7) Scholarship Fund of Alexandria winners
    • Awarded four (4) full tuition scholarships to GMU for Fall 2020
    • Awarded one (1) Honor's College full tuition scholarship for Fall 2020
    • Recorded highest number of cohort members of five (5) planning to attend GMU for Fall 2020 

    Members of this cohort plan to attend Virginia State, University of Virginia, Tiffin University, Johnson and Wales University, Northern Virginia Community College and George Mason University. We look forward to hearing more about this cohort's contribution to the global community over the next decade.

     

Our Exceptional EIP Class of 2020

    Vanessa Alvarez - Vanessa is looking forward to attending George Mason University where she will be majoring in Biology (Pre-Med). She has been awarded the Barbara J. and B. Mark Fried EIP Scholarship covering tuition. She was also accepted at UVA and Marymount University. She said, “As a person who has taken charge of their family, I am grateful that EIP has given me the personal support and has allowed me to continue my college education. Nothing is impossible!”

    Trinity Battle - Trinity will be heading to GMU to study Conflict Analysis Resolution and wants a future in law.  "This program not only provided academic support but personal support as well. EIP was one my most important milestones for success.It wasn't easy, it was a lot of commitment, but in the end, it will be worth it."

    JeanPaul Corrales - JeanPaul plans to attend NOVA in the fall and is considering transferring to GMU through the GMU-NOVA Advance Program. He is excited about a career in cyber security and plans to attain an Associates certificate and move on to get his bachelor’s degree in cyber as well. “ I remember when I filled out the EIP application and here I am now, five years later - mission accomplished!”

    Mahmoud Elarag - Mahmoud received the top award by being named an Honors College Scholarship winner where he will take part in an advanced, compressed program with other GMU students who will be leaders in real-world community engagement. He will study Computer Science while at GMU. “EIP was a great support for me because summer academy prepared me for my advanced courses in high school ahead of time.  I am also grateful for the scholarships it provides because I was able to be awarded an amazing opportunity with the Honors College!"

    Mohamed Elarag - Mohamed will be attending Richard Bland College on a soccer scholarship where he will be majoring in computer science. He said, "I gained real college experience by being on campus and the summer academy motivated me to be my best."

    Joaquin Evans -  Joaquin is heading to the North Carolina campus of Johnson and Wales University. He will be majoring in applied food sciences/culinary arts. He has been awarded an $18,000 renewable scholarship. “One take away from EIP was the amount of friends I gained. “This was important because I was usually a loner and just moved to Virginia, so this helped create my circle."

    Aiman Hamid - Aiman is heading to GMU on a full tuition scholarship through EIP.  She will be seeking a nursing degree and wants to continue on to complete a graduate degree.” EIP helped me open up and develop interpersonal skills and build relationships. It also gave me a sense of what I wanted to study in college. I had the opportunity to talk to actual nurse practitioners and other medical  professionals, which interested me.  If it weren't for EIP, I'd be pretty lost and not know what I wanted to do.”

    Karina Martinez - Karina will be studying mass communication in the fall at Virginia State University. She also was accepted toClaflin University, Norfolk State University and Morgan State University. "I really enjoyed the AMP tutoring by the GMU mentors because they wanted to support us and gave us the best advice that they can about how to be successful.  I appreciate my mentor for being considerate of my health and well-being and how it affected me.”

    Amy Oliva Ordonez- Amy is heading to the University of Virginia on a full-ride scholarship to study biology (preMed) She was also accepted by UConn, GMU, William and Mary and VIrginia Commonwealth University. Amy said, “Frankly, I wouldn't be where I am today without EIP. I am so thankful for my EIP family and all the support I’ve received.”

    Mikaela Pozo - Mikaela is heading to GMU on full EIP tuition scholarship. She is majoring in Government and International Relations. Mikaela was awarded several scholarships from private and state universities and has plans to continue on well into graduate studies. "Being part of EIP has given me a true sense of belonging. In fact, being surrounded by amazingly talented individuals driven by the desire to go to college inspired me to work hard. I am thankful to have such a strong support network that sees my potential and that of many other students who like me dream big. I know I will be able to ride out any storm during my time in college with the support of my EIP community."
