Advanced Placement (AP) Boot Camp (Virtual)

One way that schools and districts prepare students for the demands of Advanced Placement coursework is through the use of “boot camps” that take place in the summer preceding AP course enrollment. The ACPS boot camp is designed for first time AP students. The boot camp coursework helps students focus on the skills necessary to successfully complete a year in any Advanced Placement course. This goal is achieved through experiences designed to encourage teamwork, communication, organization, critical reading and writing as well as problem-solving. This virtual class is a two-week program. There are two sessions offered: July 6-16 and July 20-30.

Governor's Health Sciences Academy Summer Bridge (Virtual)

The Summer Bridge program is a transitional program for students already accepted into the Governor’s Health Sciences Academy at Alexandria City High School and who will be starting the program in fall 2021.

The program is designed to create a foundation that enables the students to be successful taking college-level courses. During this two-week program, students apply to The George Washington University, create their online university accounts and begin using Blackboard. Students also receive instruction related to college research, writing, and APA format. Guest speakers from each of the seven proposed pathways also share insight regarding health-related careers and hands-on activities or simulations. At the end of the program, students will have researched a career of their choice and created a virtual presentation.
