  • Superintendent of Schools Dr. Gregory C. Hutchings, Jr. has selected Loren Brody, an experienced principal with. D.C. Public Schools, as the next leader of Charles Barrett Elementary School.

Brody, who will start in the role on July 1, will join ACPS from the Takoma Education Campus PK3-8 in Washington D.C. where he has served as principal since 2015. He has also served as a resident principal and assistant principal in D.C. Public Schools.

Brody brings with him an understanding of the Kennedy Center Arts Integration Program, a highly-coveted arts program used by staff and students at Charles Barrett to foster a deeper understanding of complex concepts. He has also undertaken multiple Kennedy Center Arts Teaching and Learning training opportunities to support all students.

“I am delighted to welcome such an experienced educational leader with knowledge of the Kennedy Center Arts Intervention Program to lead Charles Barrett. This program is one that is valued throughout the school community and we deeply appreciate having someone on board who understands the impact a program such as this can have on the academic performance of students,” said ACPS Chief Academic Officer Dr. Terri Mozingo.

During his time with Takoma, Brody increased the district school rating from two stars to three stars by driving student growth across all students in English Language Arts and math.

He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Yale University and a Master of Science in Educational Administration from Trinity University in Washington D.C.

“In my past roles, I have focused on implementing a vision of arts integrated learning and trauma-informed practices that promote equity for every learner by tapping into students’ talents and learning styles to provide an access point and engagement for every student. I look forward to developing a similar vision for Charles Barrett together with the community,” said Brody.

Staff and community at Charles Barrett Elementary School will have the opportunity to meet Mr. Brody in July.
