- Referral/Screening Process

If your child was recently referred for Talented and Gifted (TAG) services through either the automatic referral process or a referral was submitted for him/her/them, Alexandria City Public Schools requires permission for screening. In addition, if you would like to provide additional information about your child, please complete the optional parent/guardian questionnaire. Your TAG Designee will send out a letter by November 19, 2021, on how to access these forms via PowerSchool or if you need a hard copy.
The 2021-2022 Talented and Gifted Automatic Referral Scores
The 2021-2022 Talented and Gifted (TAG) automatic referral scores for Grades 1-4 are listed below. Your child's school will be sending home official test results from either the CogAT or NNAT tests in the coming weeks, and the TAG screening process will occur throughout December-early February. If your child was automatically referred for TAG screening, you will receive a letter requesting permission for screening from the TAG office.
2021-2022 Automatic Referral Criteria for Grades 1-4
Grades 1-2 for GIA Services
- NNAT 96th percentile or higher
Grades 3-4 for SAA Services: meets one of the following
- NNAT 96th percentile or higher
- CogAT Verbal: 96th percentile or higher
- CogAT Quantitative: 96th percentile or higher
- CogAT Nonverbal: 96th percentile or higher
- CogAT VQN: 96th percentile
- MAP score: 95th percentile or higher on the Fall 2021 Reading or Math tests

Parents/guardians or teachers may submit TAG referrals through PowerSchool forms translated into four different languages: English, Spanish, Amharic, and Arabic. Parents/guardians may find and submit the form by logging into their child's PowerSchool account (https://powerschool.acps.k12.va.us/public/home.html). Please select your child's name, click on the Forms tab, click on the form titled "ACPS Referral of Students for Talented and Gifted Services," choose your preferred language from the drop-down box, and fill in and submit the form. Anyone who would like to refer and does not have access to PowerSchool may contact the TAG designee at the child's school to receive a paper copy of the referral form.

Los padres y tutores legales, o los maestros pueden enviar referencias de TAG a través de formularios de PowerSchool traducidos a cuatro idiomas diferentes: inglés, español, amárico y árabe. Los padres y tutores legales pueden encontrar y enviar el formulario iniciando sesión en la cuenta PowerSchool de su hijo (https://powerschool.acps.k12.va.us/public/home.html). Por favor, seleccione el nombre de su hijo (child´s name), haga clic en la pestaña Formularios (Forms), clic en el formulario titulado "Referencia de Alumnos de ACPS a Servicios para Alumnos Talentosos y Dotados” (ACPS Referral of Students for Talented and Gifted Services), y llene y envíe el formulario. يمكن لأولياء الامور/ الاوصياء الشرعيون أو المعلمين تقديم إحالة برنامج TAG من خلال تعبئة الإستمارات المتاحة على موقع PowerSchool والمترجمة الى أربع لغات مختلفة: الانجليزية، الاسبانية، الامهرية و العربية. يمكن لأولياء الامور/ الأوصياء الشرعيون الوصول الى الإستمارة وتقديمها من خلال تسجيل الدخول الى حساب PowerSchool الخاص بأطفالهم (https://powerschool.acps.k12.va.us/public/home.html ). يرجى تحديد اسم طفلك، ثم النقر فوق علامة التبويب "إستمارات" Forms ، ومن ثم النقر فوق الإستمارة التي تحمل عنوان "إحالة طلاب ACPS للحصول على خدمات برنامج الأذكياء والموهوبين" ACPS Referral of Students for Talented and Gifted Services ، اختيار لغتك المفضلة من حقل القائمة المنسدلة، تعبئة الإستمارة وتقديمها. يمكن لأي شخص يرغب في إحالة طفل الى خدمات TAG وليس له حساب على موقع PowerSchool الاتصال بالموظف المختص في برنامج TAG في مدرسة الطفل للحصول على نسخة ورقية من إستمارة الإحالة.
