Mrs. Suzanne Hess, Principal
Suzanne Hess has been named as the principal of Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School and will serve as the inaugural principal of Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School, when the school’s new name takes effect as of July 1, 2021.
Hess is committed to Mrs. Brooks' legacy, "Bloom where ye are planted," as a lifelong learner and educator in the ACPS system. She began her career in 2001 at John Adams Elementary School. During her 13-year tenure at John Adams Elementary School, she taught multiple grade levels, held numerous leadership roles, and ended her time there as an English Learners specialist and Department chair.
Following John Adams, Suzanne was promoted to assistant principal at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School in 2015, where she has served the students and community that she loves. Hess holds a Masters of Educational Leadership Administrative Supervision and Instruction K-12 from George Mason University and a Bachelor of Arts in Elementary Education from Florida Atlantic University. She also holds professional licenses and endorsements from the State of Virginia in Early/Primary Education, ESL PK-12, Elementary Grades K-6, and Administrative Supervision and Instruction Pre-Kindergarten-12th Grade. Suzanne is fluent in both Spanish and Italian.
Hess shared her enthusiasm, "As a committed instructional leader who has served the students, staff, families, and community of our school for the past six years; it is with abundant pride and a great sense of honor that I serve as the first Principal of Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School. I am humbled by this historic appointment and intend to honor Mrs. Brooks' legacy."

Mrs. Courtney Carrico, Assistant Principal
Courtney Carrico is the Assistant Principal at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary. Mrs. Carrico has been a consistent leader at Brooks and plays a pivotal role in our school’s journey toward academic excellence for all students. She has a strong commitment to equity, reflection, and community outreach.
Mrs. Carrico brings nine years of experience in education, most recently at Naomi Brooks as the Data Coach and Testing Coordinator. In addition to her role as a Coach, she has taught in a variety of grade levels K-6th, and she has also been a gifted teacher at Brooks and in two Fairfax County schools. She has been the facilitator of MTSS and led Professional Learning Communities for teachers.
Mrs. Carrico has a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership K-12 from George Mason University, a Gifted and Talented Certification from William and Mary University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, K-6. Mrs. Carrico states, "My hope is to connect with students and teachers alike to build and sustain positive relationships within our building". She is most looking forward to encouraging our students to find their passions to be life-long learners, practice kindness and compassion with each other each day.
