ACPS Comes Together Against Gun Violence: June 5, 2026

ACPS Comes Together Against Gun Violence: June 5, 2026

Join Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) in acknowledging the importance of National Gun Violence Awareness Day. The Alexandria City School Board passed a resolution that recognizes June 5, 2026, as National Gun Violence Awareness Day, as the school division reaffirms our pledge to do all we can to keep firearms out of the hands of people who should not have access to them and encourage responsible gun ownership to help keep our families and communities safe.

ACPS continues to collaborate with community partners, Alexandria Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) units, local law enforcement and health agencies to highlight the public safety risks of unsecured guns and encourage secure firearm storage practices.

Wear Orange Weekend, June 5-7, 2026, highlights the Be SMART program for safe gun storage, which requires storing all firearms unloaded, locked and separate from ammunition.
