Best Communities for Music Education

Vibrant geometric collage with musical symbols, a circular badge reads "2026 Best Communities for Music Education." Bold text congratulates for music support.

An incredible honor achieved—as for the first time ever Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) was named one of the Best Communities for Music Education for 2026 by the NAMM Foundation. This honor celebrates the dedication and passion of ACPS’ music educators from PreK-12 across all music disciplines—general music, choir, band, orchestra, modern music, guitar and marching band. Among the criteria in achieving this award was accessibility, as ACPS offers high-quality music offerings for all students.

The Best Communities for Music Education achievement is a national honor and is a direct reflection of ACPS leadership and the dedication of staff. “The passion and commitment you and your team bring to our students every single day has made history for ACPS. We are so proud of everything you do for the arts in our community,” said Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt in extending her congratulations to the division’s music educators. “Our students benefit greatly by each and every one of the staff members’ expertise and excellence in their respective areas,” echoed ACPS Executive Director of Instructional Support Carmen Sanders.
