Brianna Coburn Joins Douglas MacArthur Elementary School as Assistant Principal

Brianna Coburn will join Douglas MacArthur Elementary School as assistant principal, effective July 28, 2026. In this role, Coburn assists the head principal in leading the instructional program, ensuring its alignment with school division requirements for curriculum design and assessment.

Coburn is a student-centered school leader who values collaboration, continuous improvement and strong relationships. Committed to cultivating positive school culture, Coburn supports teacher growth and strives to ensure every student thrives within an inclusive, high-quality learning environment.

Previously, Coburn served as assistant principal at Larkspur Middle School in Virginia Beach, Virginia where she applied student performance data to guide instructional planning, intervention strategies and continuous school improvement. She cultivated strong partnerships with families and community stakeholders to enhance student engagement and school performance.

Coburn was also a school improvement specialist at Salem Middle School in Virginia Beach and served as an elementary teacher at Tallwood Elementary School in Virginia Beach and at Richard Bowling Elementary School in Norfolk, Virginia.

Coburn earned a Bachelor of Science in biology from Norfolk State University and a Master of Arts in Teaching - Elementary Education from Old Dominion University in Virginia. She also received an Education Specialist degree in educational leadership at Old Dominion University.
