Celebrating Public Schools Week

Public Schools Week. February 23 - 27, 2026. #PSW26

Public education enriches our students' lives and is celebrated during Public Schools Week, Feb. 23-27, 2026. Viewed as a cornerstone of society and accounting for around 90% of K-12 students in the United States who attend public schools, public education provides equity and opportunity for all students.

Public Schools Week is a designated week for administrators, teachers, specialists, families and school board members to host events for their communities and reach out to lawmakers, businesses and other community members to discuss the importance of public education. Public Schools Week brings together Learning First Alliance members, educators, families, business and community leaders and many others across the country to show the strength—and potential—of our nation’s public schools and our students’ futures.

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) takes pride in providing an education that nurtures, educates and inspires every student for success. Providing a public education for our students helps to develop the critical thinking skills necessary to prepare them for life after high school and employment in an ever-changing job market. The power of public education also lies in the fact that it enriches our students’ lives and helps them to become engaged citizens and contribute to their community in a positive way.

Celebrating Public Schools Week offers an opportunity to show appreciation for the invaluable contributions of our educators and the community they serve. It is also a time to

highlight the many accomplishments within all of our schools each day and our community support for public education. Use #PublicSchoolProud online to show your support.
