Cora Kelly's Family Resource Center Ribbon-Cutting Event

Cora Kelly's Family Resource Center Ribbon-Cutting Event

A ribbon-cutting event on Oct. 10, 2025, marked the opening of the new Family Resource Center in the library at Cora Kelly School for Math, Science & Technology (Cora Kelly).

“The Family Resource Center represents partnership, connection and opportunity — a space where families, staff and the community come together to support every Cougar. This center will serve as a hub for parent education, community resources and volunteerism — empowering families to play an active role in their child’s learning and success,” Cora Kelly Principal Molly McCabe stated.

“Our students are at the heart of everything we do,” shared Assistant Principal Jessica Milliken as she introduced three Cora Kelly fifth graders, Allison Gutierrez, Lucia Russell and Alexis Bustillo Gonzalez who expressed their joy over the new Family Resource Center. “Today, we celebrate a space that represents partnership, connection and opportunity,” said Gutierrez. “This center will help our parents learn more about what we’re learning and find ways to help us at home,” Russell added. Bustillo Gonzalez summed up their sentiment this way, “We’re proud our school believes in teamwork—because students, teachers, families and the community—that’s what makes Cora Kelly the best school ever!”

Cora Kelly Family Liaison Jacqueline Guzman supported the Family Resource Center’s planning and will continue to lead its ongoing programs and partnerships. The Family Resource Center will host parent education classes, discussion groups, volunteer coordination and community resource sessions, supporting the school division’s mission to nurture, educate and inspire every student for success.

The project was made possible through the collaboration of the following organizations: Rebuilding Together Alexandria, The Home Depot, Hearts of Love Foundation, the Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Family and Community Engagement Center (FACE), InspireLit, the Cora Kelly Parent Teacher Association (PTA) and the many community volunteers who helped bring this space to life.
