George Mason Modernization: Progress Update and What’s Ahead This Summer

A bright day reveals a brick building with a tall, central gabled roof, adorned with flags. People are gathered in front, flanked by cars and trees.

The George Mason Elementary School modernization project has made steady and visible progress in recent months, with major site work, foundation installation and significant concrete work now well underway. The Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) Office of Capital Programs, Planning and Design’s (CPPD)  construction partner, Whiting-Turner, has been working diligently to complete the foundation that will support the future school, bringing the project one step closer to vertical construction.

As we move into the summer months, the community can expect to see exciting changes as the building begins to take shape above ground. CPPD invites the community to join us for a virtual community meeting on Tue., May 5, 2026. This meeting is an opportunity to receive updates on recent construction progress, view photos of the site and learn more about what to expect in the months ahead.
