Important Calendar Update for April 21, 2026

All Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) schools will be closed for students on Tues., April 21, 2026, due to the special election taking place that day. This will be a staff work day, and no make-up day will be needed on the school year calendar. The School Board voted on this change at the School Board meeting on March 26, 2026.  

A significant number of our schools serve as polling locations, and this particular election is expected to bring a higher than usual number of voters to our school buildings. Given the projected increase in foot traffic, it would be challenging to safely manage both normal school operations and the large volume of community members entering our facilities throughout the day.

To prioritize the safety of our students and staff while supporting the community’s ability to participate in the election, ACPS with no synchronous or asynchronous learning for students on April 21, 2026.

By sharing this information in advance, we hope to provide families and staff with time to plan for this schedule change.
