King Street Access and Safety Improvements Project Near Alexandria City High School Begins July 6, 2026

Beginning Mon., July 6, 2026, construction work will start on King Street between West Braddock Road and Chinquapin Drive as part of the City of Alexandria's King Street Access and Safety Improvements Project near Alexandria City High School (ACHS).

Students, staff, families and community members are encouraged to exercise caution when traveling through the area and follow all posted signs and traffic control measures throughout the duration of the project.

The project will improve pedestrian, bicycle and transit infrastructure near ACHS to enhance safety and accessibility for students and community members. Planned improvements include the expansion of two bus stops near the King Street Campus and modifications to the existing lane configuration along King Street. These changes are designed to create stronger connections to existing walking, biking and scooting infrastructure and support safer travel to and from school.

The King Street Access and Safety Improvements Project is part of the City of Alexandria's Safe Routes to School Program, a citywide initiative focused on promoting safe walking and bicycling to school through infrastructure improvements, enforcement and safety education.
