LaKisha Brown Joins ACHS as an Academy Principal

LaKisha Brown

LaKisha Brown joins Alexandria City High School (ACHS) as an academy principal, effective Aug. 11, 2025. In this role, Brown assists the campus principal in leading the Academies of Alexandria City High School, supervising and coordinating interdisciplinary, project-based learning experiences for students and staff. In addition, she provides instructional leadership for academic content areas and develops community partnerships that support the ACHS academies and establish a positive school climate.

“Ms. Brown brings a proven track record of reducing barriers to student success and creating a culture of high expectations. Her dedication to academic excellence, equity and student engagement will make an immediate and lasting impact on our Academy community,” said Lance Harrell, interim executive principal at ACHS.

Brown is committed to fostering an inclusive, culturally responsive and high-achieving school environment. Throughout her career, she has demonstrated success in enhancing student achievement, reducing absenteeism rates and supporting teacher growth.

Brown served as assistant principal at Prince William County Public Schools’ Freedom High School where she had an integral role in developing the continuous school improvement plan by incorporating input from all stakeholders.

She also was a Mentor 360 ambassador at Mountain View High School in Stafford, Virginia where she implemented comprehensive mentorship and development programs for initially licensed teachers and their mentors, ensuring these programs foster professional growth. Brown was also the lead mentor at White Oak High School in Jacksonville, North Carolina where she also served as Career and Technical Education Department Chair. Brown has more than 15 years of experience as a business and marketing teacher in Virginia and North Carolina.

Brown received a Bachelor of Arts in management as well as a Master of Arts in teaching

from National University in San Diego, California. She also earned a Master of Business Administration from University of Phoenix in Arizona and a Master of Education–educational leadership endorsement from University of Mary Washington in Virginia. Brown is currently a doctoral student in educational administration and leadership at Virginia State University.
