YES (Youth Engaged in Service) – Spring Break Program 

Tue., March 31, 2026 

Various Community Locations in Alexandria

Students in grades 6-12 are invited to join the YES (Youth Engaged in Service) Spring Break Program with Volunteer Alexandria. Participants will learn about social issues facing Alexandrians while supporting local nonprofits and earning up to four service hours per day. Activities may include making sandwiches for shelters, playing games with seniors, organizing food pantries, planting flowers, removing weeds and assembling toiletry kits for families. The program is free for Alexandria City students in grades 6-12. Students may attend one, two or all three days. Register online https://bit.ly/4cqDAUE

ALIVE! Pop-Up Food Distributions

ALIVE! is a local not-for-profit organization dedicated to providing emergency and basic needs support to children, families and individuals living in poverty and with hunger in the City of Alexandria. ALIVE! distributes bags of food to Alexandria City residents. No ID is required. Check out the Food Hub and Distribution Schedules to see which one is closer to you. 

Cultural Observance Days

On weekdays, cultural observance days are regular school days. However, these days should not hold assessments, sporting events and other school sponsored special activities. Any missed assignments due to student absences on these days can be made up without penalty.
