Now Accepting Applications to Serve as a School Board Student Representative

2025-26 Student Reps.

The Alexandria City School Board is now accepting applications for 2026-27 school year student representatives. Applications must be submitted by Fri., April 17, 2026.

This is a unique opportunity for students to serve as advisors to the School Board, ensuring student voices are heard in important discussions that shape our schools. Through this role, students gain invaluable experience in leadership, advocacy and civic engagement while contributing to decisions that impact their peers.

Three student representative positions are available, including two at-large representatives from Alexandria City High School (ACHS) and one ACHS International Academy representative. To be eligible, students must be rising juniors or seniors at ACHS. The International Academy student representative must be a rising junior or senior from the International Academy at ACHS.

Student representatives serve a one-year term from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027. They attend regular School Board meetings in person or virtually, where at least 75% of meeting attendance is required. They provide a student perspective on key issues and deliver reports on behalf of the student body. Student representatives participate in School Board discussions; however, they do not vote. They also attend special events.

How to Apply:

  • Provide three letters of recommendation (from a school counselor, a teacher and an additional teacher or adult). Letters must be submitted directly by the author to boardclerk@acps.k12.va.us or postmarked by the deadline.
