Participate in the Naming Process for Four School Campus Spaces

The Alexandria City School Board has received petitions to name spaces on four school campuses and is encouraging the Alexandria community to share your views as part of the naming process. A community petition with at least 100 signatures was presented for each of the four sites in accordance with School Board Policy FFA and Regulation FFA-R.

The sites are provided below along with a brief explanation for each.

The Parker-Gray Stadium Field at Alexandria City High School King Street Campus

A community petition requested that the field at Parker-Gray Stadium be named “Keith Burns Field.” Burns graduated from T.C. Williams High School, now Alexandria City High School, in 1990 and after college, went on to play for 13 seasons as an NFL linebacker. Over the years, Burns has remained a dedicated community member in the City of Alexandria.

Note: The name of the stadium itself will remain Parker-Gray Stadium, preserving its historical significance while also recognizing Keith Burns’ contributions to the community.

The Fields at Alexandria City High School Minnie Howard Campus

A community petition requested that the fields at the Alexandria City High School Minnie Howard Camus be named the “Kerry Donley Field.” Donley was a longtime public servant and former mayor of Alexandria. He made extraordinary and long-lasting contributions to the Alexandria community through public governance, public education and community service. 

The Media Center at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School

A community petition requested the Media Center at Naomi L. Brooks Elementary School to be named the “Jean B. Reid Media Center.” Reid, a dedicated educator, worked as a reading specialist for Alexandria City Public Schools from 1971 until her retirement in 2001. She taught and held leadership positions at several ACPS schools.

The Courtyard at the Early Childhood Center 

A community petition requested that the Courtyard at the Early Childhood Center be named “Owen’s Place.” Owen Michael Wagner was a compassionate teen dedicated to helping children. He loved listening to music and attending sporting events. He is the late son of Heidi Haggerty-Wagner, principal of the Early Childhood Center. 

How to Participate in the Name Processes

The first of two community polls will open Oct. 13-22, 2025. To help inform the School Board’s decision, please take one to two minutes to share your views and complete this brief poll. You are invited to provide feedback and suggest your own recommendations through the form provided.

Community engagement is a vital part of this process. The final decisions on naming any school facility will be made in accordance with School Board Policy FFA and Regulation FFA-R.
