School Board Policy Revisions

At the Alexandria City School Board meeting on Jan. 8, 2026, the School Board amended three policies, and the superintendent updated four regulations. The following is a summary of the key changes, details are available on BoardDocs.

EEAC - School Bus Safety Program

• Five-year review.
• Minor rewording to improve readability.

GB-R_GBA-R - Procedures for Investigating Staff Complaints of Discrimination and Harassment

GB-R2_GBA-R2 - Procedures for Investigating Staff Complaints of Discrimination and Harassment on the Basis of Sex

• Updated to reflect the 2025 revision of the definition of fondling in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system.

GCQA - Nonschool Employment by Staff Members

• Requested review.
• Added a provision to ensure the superintendent is aware of non-incidental non-ACPS employment for certain positions.

GDQ - School Bus Drivers

• Five-year review.
• Added the type of federal Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse query conducted.
• Added key reasons for drug and alcohol testing.

JB-R2_JFHA-R2 - Procedures for Investigating Complaints of Discrimination and Harassment of Students on the Basis of Sex

• Updated to reflect the 2025 revision of the definition of fondling in the Federal Bureau of Investigation's Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) system.

ACPS has over 400 policies and regulations which are systematically revised prior to being presented to the School Board for information. The revision process includes alignment with the associated Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) model policy, alignment with the Code of Virginia, an equity review, a legal review, revisions by a team of staff members, a Senior Leadership Team review, and a School Board Policy Committee review. Public input on proposed revisions is taken at School Board Policy Committee meetings and regular School Board meetings.
