School Board Policy Revisions

At the Alexandria City School Board meeting on April 9, 2026, the School Board amended three policies, and the Superintendent amended three regulations. The School Board updated one policy. The following is a summary of the key changes, details are available on BoardDocs.

GCPD - Licensed Staff Discipline

  • Five-year review.
  • Standard changes.
  • Improved alignment with the Code if a teacher refuses to submit to a polygraph.

IKFA - Locally-Awarded Verified Credits

IKFA-R - Locally-Awarded Verified Credit Regulations

IKFA-R2 - Regulations for Locally Awarded Verified Credits as Credit Accommodations

IKFA-R3 - Regulations for History and Social Science Locally Awarded Verified Credits

  • Five-year review.
  • Standard changes.
  • Created new regulations IKFA-R2 and IKFA-R3 from content taken from IKFA and IKFA-R.
  • Removed out-of-date content which does not apply to current students.
  • Added additional content to IKFA-R2 to reflect updated Virginia Department Of Education (VDOE) forms.

JFC - Student Conduct

  • Update.
  • Corrected a typographical error in the adopted version.

JJAF - Student-Athlete Sudden Cardiac Arrest

  • Required biennial review.
  • No changes.

ACPS has over 400 policies and regulations which are systematically revised prior to being presented to the School Board for information. The revision process includes alignment with the associated VSBA model policy, alignment with the Code of Virginia, an equity review, a legal review, revisions by a team of staff members, a Senior Leadership Team review, and a School Board Policy Committee review. Public input on proposed revisions is taken at School Board Policy Committee meetings and regular School Board meetings.
