Snapshots from the Superintendent's School Travels

Dr.Kay-Wyatt at the PTAC Budget forum.

Visiting Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS) and events across the school division, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt enjoys her time spent with students, staff and members of the community. Those moments are captured in “Snapshots from the Superintendent’s School Travels.”

January 2026: At the end of the month, our snowstorm heroes sprang into action. ACPS bus drivers and transportation staff were busy clearing and preparing ACPS school buses for our students. Our Facilities and Operations staff cleared buildings and walkways as we safely prepared for reopening schools. We are also appreciative of our School Nutrition Services team as they continued to provide meals to students while our buildings were closed for instruction.

Feb. 9, 2026:  The ACPS and Alexandria Parent-Teacher Association Council (PTAC) budget forum was held at Douglas MacArthur Elementary School. The discussion served to inform our families about the budget process and came to fruition due to the successful, collaborative efforts of staff from ACPS’ Financial Services and School and Community Relations departments and members of the PTAC who served as the host for this informative budget forum.

One-pagers explaining the budget process, translated in Amharic, Dari and Spanish, were made available and can also be found on the ACPS website. There was a good turnout for the event and lively discussion focused on the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Combined Funds (CF) Budget and how to allocate the funds to best serve and support our students.
