On May 7, 2026, Superintendent Dr. Melanie Kay-Wyatt presented recommended adjustments to the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 Combined Funds (CF) and Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Budgets. These adjustments reflect changes following the School Board’s Adoption of the FY 2027 Combined Funds Budget on Feb. 19, 2026, and the City of Alexandria’s FY 2027 Operating Budget Adoption on April 29, 2026, which finalized the funding appropriation to Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS).

As part of this process, adjustments to the Combined Funds budget—including Operating, Grants & Special Projects, and School Nutrition Services—as well as updates to the CIP budget, must now be considered.

Here are a few of the items included in the adjusted budget:

  • Includes over $10 million for bargaining units pay increases, which averages about a 4.2% increase across employees.
    • To afford these pay increases, 45.6 full-time employees (FTEs) are being eliminated.
  • Middle School Athletic programming will continue in FY 2027.
  • ACPS will continue to cover the majority of employees' rising healthcare costs.
    • 75% for licensed staff and administrators.
    • 85% for educational support personnel.

The School Board will hold a public hearing on the adjusted budgets on Tue., May 12, 2026, at 6 p.m. Community members interested in speaking may sign up to speak through Mon., May 11, 2026, at noon.
