The Alexandria City Public Schools Summer Learning 2026 Program

Summer Learning

Alexandria City Public Schools (ACPS), through the Office of Instructional Support in the Department of Teaching, Learning and Leadership, is excited to continue our summer learning enrichment and intervention programs for current students.

This summer, students will engage in hands-on learning focused on the five senses (pre-K); Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) (grades K–4); and Career Exploration (grades 5–8). Current band and orchestra students in grades 5–7 will also have the opportunity to participate in Music Camp on a first-come, first-served basis.

High school in-person summer learning is primarily for students who need credit recovery courses; however, original credit Health and Physical Education (PE) nine and 10 will also be offered. Other new credit courses will be taught through an online vendor. More detailed program information can be found on the  ACPS Summer Learning webpage.

Please note that student enrollment this summer is limited and based on specific enrollment criteria. Registration does not confirm enrollment. Enrollment confirmations (and denial) will be sent to families on May 19, 2026.

Registration for pre-K through grade eight is open to students beginning at 8 a.m. on Mon., March 16, 2026, and will close Sun., April 19, 2026, at 11:59 p.m.

We highly encourage early registration because the number of students we can serve in the Summer Learning program will be determined by our summer learning sites and staffing capacity.

The ACPS Summer Learning 2026 program will consist of four weeks of in-person learning from Mon., June 22, 2026, to Thu., July 16, 2026. Learning will occur every Monday to Thursday, with no school on Fridays.

Registration for the extended school year special education programming for current pre-K through postgraduate students will be completed by the student's case manager.

Current and rising students in grades 9-12 who need credit recovery or additional original course credits should register through their school counselor. For credit recovery, our top priority will be term graduates and rising seniors, with rising juniors included only if space becomes available. This prioritization aligns with previous years and supports our goal of ensuring students closest to graduation have every opportunity to stay on track.

Registration opens on March 23, 2026. For more information about course offerings, please visit the ACHS Summer Learning website.
